The History of Carniceria La Carreta

An authentic Mexican specialty experience.

On April 23, 1999, Carniceria La Carreta opened its doors and in that instance Luis and Maria Diaz carved out their own piece of the American Dream. Taking inspiration from classic Mexican-style butcher shops, the Diaz family worked tirelessly to mold and develop something authentic but entirely their own bolstered by three core ideals: unmatched cleanliness, quality products, and the love of the customer. In time, Luis and Maria Diaz began to see what was possible in a land of limitless opportunity and the fantasy of growth soon became a promise.

Along the way, the Diaz’s have looked to those around them as models of behavior that they would like to see reflected in their company. From Maria’s childhood as the seventh child of fourteen looking toward her father’s work ethic and her mother’s perseverance as a guide on how to carry herself and help raise her seven younger siblings, to Luis’ final job at Terry Lumber, Co., where he first experienced a work environment that he felt put people first. The sum total of the Diaz’s journey contributes to their daily ambition of building a company where customers and employees alike are valued and respected.

In pursuit of a bright future, the next generation of the Diaz family are preparing to step into the role long held by Luis and Maria. Having grown up working alongside their parents, the new generation know the business well and are hungry and engaged with the problems of today. Their vision for the future is one that honors the past and looks to build on the legacy already in place.
